Now that we’re done with our last concert of 2017, it is time to start looking ahead to the holiday season for 2018. I know this looks really weird, but hear me out.

I’ve been actively thinking about this Christmas project for over two years now, but I just wasn’t moved by my arrangements or programming ideas. Have you ever had one of those projects around the house where it gnaws at you for awhile and then you suddenly wake up one morning and know that this is the day you’re going to paint the house (or something like that)? That was me with this project.

This silly folder here has been collecting holiday tunes and arrangements since the mid-90’s. Opening this folder has been like opening a time capsule of holiday gigs past with arrangements that were made while I was in graduate school along with photocopies of various lead sheets and arrangements by some of my previous co-conspirators such as Pamela York and Todd Johnson.

From the cover, you can see that I was also obsessed at one point with the Charlie Brown Christmas Special. As a kid, I never realized or cared that I was a jazz fan. I just loved that music on the Charlie Brown shows. It wasn’t until I was a “few” years older before I found out that it was Vince Guaraldi that wrote all those cool tunes.

But, I digress.

We decided to try these new arrangements out over a couple of concerts to see what our friends and fans think of the program. I was humbled by the overwhelming positive response from so many that wanted to buy the CD now. We have set a recording date for February now and are working on the details. In the meantime, here are a few of the songs we played in concert. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below. Enjoy!

I'll sing to you on your birthday!
