Well, we’re a little more than half way through September. My goal has been to write some new music this month and work towards a new CD at some point.
Hmmm. I have little 4 bar chord progressions and scraps of melodic content around the piano. I even have a notebook filling with mind maps and sketches of stories. I have nothing completed.
On the plus side, I’ve been working with Anders Blichfeldt on his new project. For those of you outside the Danish music scene, he is the lead singer for a rock band called Big Fat Snake. He’s making an intimate CD featuring his stories of love and funny adventures. I’m honored that he asked me to assemble a trio to back him. Over the last week, we’ve played through the tunes, refined the arrangements, and had time to talk about how we write music. I got inspired.
Then I wrote this:
Give me a title or a theme
Now, I need your help. I need a story or a title to kick start my lyric writing. Listen to it a couple of times. It is the melody, a short piano solo, and back to the melody. Write your thoughts down in the comment area below. It could be anything from how it makes you feel, images that come to mind, or a proposed title.
I can’t wait to read your ideas!
Things that matter will stand the test of time.
Autumn in Copenhagen
How can I sleep when I dream of something I cannot have.
I was very relaxed andere thought of next totale: swimming with the wales
[Theme: Winter flowers]
the christmas rose,
a climbing happy wanderer (also called Hardenbergia, but you can’t sing that!),
and little miss Bergenia
keep me happy when the sun’s gone cold
Lucunia, temperamental and rosy pink
Lavender, my blood and bone, for quick re-growth
sets me straight when the temperature’s…(well) gone cold…(but we had that already, didn’t we?)
…and so on from this website: http://www.homelife.com.au/gardening/galleries/12+best+winter+flowers,10174?pos=3
Makes me think of walking through the park on a fall day….thoughts racing through my mind while taking in the sights and sounds…
OR
“When We Were Young”
I had the image of floating through clouds mixed with groundedness. So I had this sense of balance between moving through the air in the direction of our fancies but returning to the solid, grounded spaces. The ideas of adulthood and childhood and the inner child when we’re all grown up came to mind. Hope it helps 🙂
New Life … The day you meet a newborn… Joy, hope. All things right with life.
Tell me a secret I can hold on to
I’ll always keep it, if you want me to
Sharing from the heart…it..never gets old,
it’s never too bold
it’s what life is for
for you I adore
my love, my own.
(bridge) Holding what’s in your heart is in my hands,
A little piece of you divine
that never, ever before saw the light of day
What do you say?
The day has just begun
to begin our master plan
to live our life as one
so in love.
Wow! You spent some time on this. Nice lyric. Thank you Barbara!
Actually, Kristen, it just happened pretty much on its own. I love when that happens! Thanks. bj
