Kristin Korb reignites the 80s with “Sisters Are Doin’ It For Themselves”!
Dive back into the vibrant sounds of the 80s with American jazz vocalist and bassist Kristin Korb‘s new release, Sisters Are Doin’ It For Themselves – the second single from her upcoming Eurythmics tribute album, slated for release later this year (the lead single “There Must Be An Angel” dropped June 21).
Remember those MTV days, when Annie Lennox’s powerhouse vocals ruled the airwaves? Well, get ready to groove anew as Kristin Korb reimagines this Eurythmics’ classic through her jazz-infused lens, weaving vibrant new arrangements and interpretations that reflect her personal connection to the band’s music.
Sisters Are Doin’ It For Themselves was a major hit in 1985 and was huge to Kristin as a teen-ager. There was so much power in the performances of both Annie Lennox and Aretha Franklin in this modern feminist anthem, which appeared on both Eurythmics’ “Be Yourself Tonight” and Aretha Franklin’s “Who’s Zoomin’ Who?”.
Kristin seamlessly blends her skills as a bassist and vocalist, delivering a captivating rendition that honors the original while showcasing her unique artistry.
There are few bassists who can sing and there are even fewer who can do it well. Kristin Korb is a rare breed of musician who effortlessly blends her talents as a bassist and vocalist, captivating listeners with her crystal-clear voice while expertly maneuvering the bass.
The journey began with a sensational live debut of reimagined Eurythmics tracks at the legendary Jazzhus Montmartre in Copenhagen, Denmark, in September 2023. The audience’s enthusiastic response spurred Kristin and her band to capture this magic in the studio, resulting in 12 carefully curated tracks that embody the essence of Eurythmics with a jazz twist.
Joining Kristin on this exciting project are her trusty bandmates, Magnus Hjorth on piano and Snorre Kirk on drums. The single “Sisters Are Doin’ It For Themselves” also showcases the exceptional Swedish saxophonist Karl-Martin Almqvist, whose performance adds a dynamic layer to this iconic track with a truly outstanding solo.
