Track 2:  Flamingo

It is said that singer Herb Jeffries was delivered by “Flamingo” in 1940 with Duke Ellington.    I met Herb in Desert Springs, CA  at a little gig I was playing.  I knew who he was the moment I saw him.  What history and what a voice!  I’m glad to pay a little tribute to him.

Who’s Responsible:  Bruce Forman
Instrument:  Guitar
The Connection:  This version of “Flamingo” actually comes to me via Bruce Forman.  His CD Formanism has a very sultry instrumental version of it.  The story fits so well with the groove. Ah, the romanticising of a long-distance relationship.  I’m glad I don’t have to do THAT anymore.

I'll sing to you on your birthday!
